Trevithick’s Steam Circus in Bloomsbury, London, 1809
“Catch Me Who Can. Mechanical Power Subduing Animal Speed.”
- Slogan on posters advertising the Steam Circus.
For one shilling, Londoners could experience the marvels of British engineering; racing at the dizzying speeds of 12mph, in a full circle, on the Catch Me Who Can steam engine. Sadly, public interest was limited, after the heavy engine broke the brittle tracks and was derailed.
